Radio Public Service Announcements

Public Service Announcements (PSAs)

Radio Stations regularly utilize public service announcements as part of their voluntary community relations program and efforts to meet federally-mandated requirements for broadcast community service. These announcements (PSAs) are non-paid commercials for activities, events, and public awareness of important issues and organizations that affect the station's listeners. Radio stations need good public service material on a regular basis, and will use well written, informative PSAs provided by non-profit and professional associations.

Most frequently, radio stations prefer to have their own “voices” read written radio copy that is provided for them. Nine times out of ten, written PSAs are preferred. However, local associations might check by phone with local radio stations to see if prepared cassettes are used. Audio can be easily produced using the prepared PSA.

One advantage of radio is that it goes everywhere—in our cars, in the workshop, at the office, at the beach. In fact, morning “drive time” DJs are often as well known in the community as local television news anchors.
